Footpaths in Salford
At the AGM last year I volunteered to be the Footpath Officer for Salford, one reason being that I thought it would be a good way of finding out about the footpaths in Salford.I have very much enjoyed exploring and finding parts of the City that I did not know existed. To help me I have had rather an old version of the definitive footpath map from Salford Council, plus a list of the paths. The map marks the paths with a number beside each, and it is then possible to look up this number on the list which gives the route of the path, and the length in metres. Sometimes, of course the Ordnance Survey maps for the area have been helpful.
I started by looking at the footpaths in Worsley, where I already knew some of the paths, and I discovered many more that I had never walked along before. More recently, I have been exploring the footpaths in the Irlam and Cadishead area.
I found not only paths, but a large part of Salford that I did not know existed. It is very rural, and when I was walking the paths, I kept meeting up with tractors taking in the harvest, not what I expected to see in Salford!
If you are interested in joining me in exploring and checking the paths, either in your own area or in a different part of Salford, please do get in touch. My details are on the committee page.
It really is a very enjoyable way to walk around and get to know the area. If you live in Manchester and feel like looking at the paths there, I do recommend the job. I have very much enjoyed the exploration and finding new parts of the City.
