Manchester and Salford Ramblers
In Manchester we now have a team working together on this. Barry Windle is coordinating path clearing, we have made a good start, see photos above. Maggie Walker is coordinating the path inspectors, who check a small number of paths once a year. Richard Cleverley is collating inspection reports, passing them onto the council, with whom he and Salle Dare meet regularly to discuss maintaining and improving the state of paths and legal issues. If you want to help with clearing or inspecting please contact Salle Dare via her email email@example.com
If you notice a problem with a footpath In Manchester such as an obstruction and if it is a serious blockage please report to KevinGillham , or tel: 0161 234 5148. Please remember, if you are reporting a problem to the council in this way, please also copy in our footpath officer, Richard Cleverley
Salford has a small team of volunteers led by Rob Dean, who work on the footpaths. They liaise with Salford CC on a regular basis, obtaining permission before each job. Path clearing is done on an ad hoc basis, depending on the weather and the availability of volunteers. All tools and equipment are supplied. Work days usually consist of 2 or 3 hours either in the morning or afternoon. Anyone wishing to help should contact the secretary
We are covered by Ramblers insurance so you are protected if anything should happen. In the past when we have done this kind of thing we have had a lot of fun and it is really satisfying when you look at the path and see how much has been cleared.
If you would be interested please let Salle, the Chair know via her email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and she will then let you know when the first session will be and send out a time table.
So please come and join us. We look forward to meeting up with you and getting stuck in!
