In early July the latest version of the plans were published for the HS2 rail line from Crewe to Manchester and people were invited to comment on the proposals.
The route will affect countryside around the Bollin Valley within the Manchester boundary and impacts on footpaths around the airport. Associated works would have a detrimantal impact on the Green Trail in Wythenshawe and around Pin Mill Brow and Mayfield in the City Centre. A proposed vent shaft would pose severe problems for walking by the River Mersey in West Disdbury.
We have made a detailed submission to the consultation and have argued that as statutory consultees on footpath orders and matters affecting Rights of Way, we would expect to receive information in good time and be given every opportunity to examine final detailed proposals and to make alternative suggestions that would be considered seriously.

Manchester City Council has formally objected to the legislation that is currently before Parliament to try to get improvements in the plans, to mitigate against its worst effects and to improve access on foot. We havesupported the city council and share their concerns and objectives.
