Manchester and Salford Ramblers

Plans are being developed for the first new homes to be built at Mayfield and a major extension of Mayfield Park. LandsecU+I, the developers of this phase have asked for views on the proposals.

Manchester and Salford Ramblers strongly welcomed the expansion of the park and the continued development of the Mayfield project.

The developers say that there is an aspiration to improve connections between Mayfield Park and Ardwick. We have been strong advocates from the outset of good walking routes from all the neighbouring areas to the park, so we are strongly in favour of a crossing of the Mancunian Way. Indeed, we believe that there should be a clear a commitment from the partnership and the developers to make the investment necessary to make this a reality.

The Lower Medlock Valley is recognised as an important green space close to the development relevant to the health of the potential occupants. We strongly believe that there should also be a commitment from the Mayfield partnership and the developers to invest in public realm, infrastructure and signage to create an attractive route from the park to the Lower Medlock Valley.

The development of phase 1a may also proceed shortly and as part of our comments on that planning application we argued for big improvements for walkers to the Baring Street entrance and to the London Road junction.
